Hair Loss Due To Stress – Is It Really True?

Nobody likes it when their hair starts to fall, get thin and weaker. For some people, their hair is their signature feature. They style it in many ways to look good and when they start losing it, it can be a tough experience for most people.

As time goes on, the hair get thin and weak and become brittle. This causes hair to break when doing normal tasks like washing it, combing it and even touching our hair. Certain hormones and a poor diet can also cause this condition.

  1. Trichotillomania

This condition results in the pulling of hair scalps due to stress and anxiety. Trichotillomania is a psychological condition in which people deal with negative emotions and anxiety by pulling out their hair.

  1. Alopecia Areata

This is a condition where the immune system attacks the hair follicles and causes them to weaken and get thin. Most of the time, it only causes hair to get thin but sometimes, it causes bald spots. The hair can regrow but it will start to fall again.

 Doctors are not sure what causes this but there is a clue that it may be caused through genetics. There are no researches relating Alopecia Areata with stress but any person experiencing this will surely also experience stress.

How To Treat Hair Loss Caused By Stress

Hair loss due to stress can be caused by almost anything such as  stress, illness and injury stress, emotional stress, relationship issues, medications, divorce, financial issues, bad diet, etc. To treat hair loss caused by these situations, you should try the following methods:

  1. Treat your hair properly when washing it, drying it and combing it. Wash it with a good quality shampoo, oil it two times a week and use a conditioner. When drying it, use the dryer at low speed and keep far away from your hair. When close up, it can cause damage to the scalp of hair. While styling it, don’t over use the gel and don’t comb it harsly. Combing it harsley may break hair strands and may even damage the scalp.
  1. Eat a proper nutritional diet. Most hair problems are due to  too much unhealthy stuff. Eating oily stuff all the time is very harmful to your body. Consider taking a multivitamin with the recommendation of your doctor. Fixing up your diet can also lead to fat loss due to which you can gain a lot of confidence.
  1. Start exercising regularly each week.  Not only does it help with stress, it will make you healthy and possibly more attractive looking. This can boost your confidence and reduce stress as well. Exercising also reduces the chances of a heart attack.
  1. Spend time with good and positive friends. Being lonely can cause depression which further worsens stress. Try leaving toxic people and relationships as well. Toxic people can cause you a lot of emotional stress.
  1. Trying seeing a professional therapist to deal with emotional stress. Whether it’s bullying, divorce, death, etc. Therapists are a great way to cope with these kinds of issues.
  1. Try to relax. Learn different relaxing methods like meditating, yoga and breathing exercises. These can have a big effect on your stress and make you more positive.

Hair loss issues due to stress are normally not permanent. These tend to stop quite fast but they continue, it is advisable to see a doctor. They may prescribe you some medications or may recommend a treatment.
